Red Vivid Colour Transformation in Amsterdam
Natural brown hair, grown-out and soft, standing against a white wall on Kerkstraat — that was the starting point. Two hours later the same hair was moving in bright, layered red, catching the light every time she turned her head.
The transformation
Our guest came in with her natural brown base, worn long with a blunt fringe. The brief was colour that reads loud without losing the softness of the cut, so we built the red in pieces rather than flooding the whole head: streaks lifted through the fringe, brightness pulled down the face-framing sections, and a deeper, richer red carried through the lengths and ends. The darker brown left between those sections is what makes the red look as vivid as it does — contrast doing the work, not volume of colour.
Lightening is what makes a red this saturated possible, and it is also where hair is most at risk. We protected the hair with the K18 bond-building treatment through the process so the lengths kept their elasticity and the ends stayed soft enough to fall into that feathered, flicked-out shape. The cut was kept long and heavily layered, with the fringe cut in, so the red moves in ribbons rather than sitting as one flat panel.
Vivid red is a good Amsterdam colour. It reads beautifully in flat, grey canal light, and against the city's brick and dark water it looks intentional rather than costume. It does fade — that is the honest part of any bright red — so we talk through wash frequency, cooler water and a colour-safe routine at the chair, and plan the refresh before the first one is needed.
