Galaxy Peek-a-Boo Transformation in Amsterdam

Hair color trends usually rely on instant visual impact. However, the peek-a-boo technique creates a different and fascinating effect. At first glance, it looks completely natural. But, as the hair moves, it reveals highly saturated, vivid tones underneath. Consequently, this contrast makes the peek-a-boo style super relevant today. It represents a cool duality. You get the desire for expressive, bold color, plus the need for a minimal, everyday foundation.
This recent transformation shows exactly how stylists execute this layered method. First, we transitioned a natural dark base into a complex, colorful design.
A Restrained Canvas

The transformation started with a strong, natural foundation. Specifically, the client had thick, black hair with scattered, natural silver and grey strands throughout.
In vivid color work, a super dark base presents a specific technical challenge. Usually, it requires major changes to hold bright pigments. In contrast, a peek-a-boo application preserves this dark canopy rather than erasing it. Therefore, the black hair acts as a grounding element. This choice ensures the final look stays rooted in the client’s natural vibe. Furthermore, it provides extreme contrast for the bright colors placed beneath it.
The Process of Lightening
Achieving this level of contrast takes time. First, to properly prepare the hair, our stylist performed a Triple Process Creative Color service and Haircut. Overall, this took a total of five hours.
The length of this service directly protects the hair’s health. To start, we sectioned away the top layers of the black hair and left them entirely untouched. Next, we carefully treated the underlying sections with bleach. Because dark hair naturally exposes warm, brassy tones as it lightens, we kept the bleaching stage slow and deliberate. As a result, we reached a clean, pale blonde safely. After that, we applied a toner to neutralize any remaining warmth. Ultimately, this created a neutral slate for the final vivid dyes.
Visual Codes: Blue, Purple, and Silver
After lifting and toning the underlayer, we applied the final pigments. Instead of a single flat shade, we painted a custom-mixed palette onto the hair.
The color selection completely ignores natural tones. Instead, we wove together electric blue, rich violet, and icy silver-blonde. These synthetic, cool tones sit right against the natural black hair above them. Furthermore, we intentionally avoided blending the black canopy and the vivid underlayer. This sharp choice creates a stark, color-blocking effect that feels very deliberate and modern.
The Final Form: Dimension and Duality
The true appeal of the peek-a-boo technique shines when the hair moves.
When the hair falls naturally, the dark top layer largely hides the vivid colors. As a result, you only see subtle hints of blue and purple at the ends. However, styling the hair fully reveals the complex color work. For instance, we styled the hair into a thick, half-up braid. This specific look brings the vivid panels of purple, blue, and silver right to the surface. They intermingle directly with the black hair.
Ultimately, this style offers a super adaptable version of vivid hair. It allows the wearer to control the visibility of the color. With a simple change in styling, you can shift between a minimal aesthetic and a highly expressive, futuristic look.
